There are certain categories of documents that the DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) & Disclosure Scotland needs to run a DBS check.
Apart from a utility bill, there are other documents you can use to prove your current address. There is a group of documents called “financial and social history documents” which include:
- Mortgage and bank statements
- P45 and P60 forms issued by HMRC
- Council tax bill or statement
- Benefit letter or statement issued by the government
- Utility bill
These statements must be recent, usually dated in the last three months. In the case of a P60 or council tax statement which are only produced annually, you must show the most recent.
If you do not have any of these documents, the DBS & Disclosure Scotland cannot run the check and issue the certificate. This is because they cannot verify the identity of who they are checking without receiving the required documents.
Your online form will detail the selection of documents you have. If you are unsure what documents you need to provide, you can call the Candidate Team on +44 (0) 1234 339 300 to discuss it further and come to suitable solutions.
