The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) handles UK England & Wales Criminal record checks—also known as a DBS checks.
The DBS update service allows applicants to ensure their DBS certificate is up to date, and gives employers the option to check your DBS certificate whenever needed, rather than requesting a new one. This can be beneficial for job roles that require periodic DBS checks, such as healthcare workers or teachers.
The update service costs £13* per year and can be paid by debit or credit card.
As Verifile does not directly carry out this check, should you wish to register for the DBS update service, you will need to contact the DBS directly.
If you are currently in the process of getting a standard or enhanced DBS check, you will need to request your application number from either Verifile or the company requesting your checks, and apply for the update service within 28 days.
If you already hold a standard or enhanced DBS certificate, you will need your certificate number (again, requested from Verifile or the company requesting your checks), and must register within 30 days of the certificate issue date.
Applications can be made here: DBS CRSC (crbonline.gov.uk).
For basic DBS checks, you will need to register for an Online Services Account instead of using the update service.
Further information can be found the on the DBS Update Service webpage: DBS Update Service - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk).
