The online background screening form will ask for your birth certificate number.


However, this information is not mandatory. If you do not have a copy of your birth certificate, you can simply leave this section blank.

If there is a criminal record check, you cannot select your birth certificate as an identity document.

To proceed without the birth certificate for your criminal record check, you will need to select an alternative ID from the list of acceptable documents. 


Examples include:

  • Passport, any nationality
  • Official Travel Document (i.e., Convention Travel Document) / Visa
  • Photocard Driving Licence, any nationality (must be current
  • Biometric Residence Permit (BRP)
  • UK Old Style Paper Licence
  • EU National Identity Card
  • UK Government Department Pass / Card
  • Employee ID Card
  • Armed Forces ID Card
  • National Student Union ID / University ID
  • Adoption Certificate
  • PASS Card
  • Firearms Licence (UK, Channel Islands, and Isle of Man only)
