GUIDANCE:

Common list of documents accepted as proof of identity, residency, and address.

 

Proof of identity must always show full name and date of birth.

 

  • Passport, any nationality.
  • Official Travel Document (i.e., Convention Travel Document) / Visa.
  • Photocard Driving Licence, any nationality (must be current).
  • Biometric Residence Permit (BRP).
  • UK Old Style Paper Licence.
  • Birth Certificate.
  • EU National Identity Card.
  • UK Government Department Pass / Card.
  • Employee ID Card.
  • Armed Forces ID Card.
  • National Student Union ID / University ID.
  • Adoption Certificate.
  • PASS Card.
  • Firearms Licence (UK, Channel Islands, and Isle of Man only).
  • Proof of Address (must always show the full name or first initial and last name, current address including first line and postcode).
  • Financial Letter (i.e., Pension, Endowment, ISA) *.
  • Bank or Building Society (Statement or Letter) * (online statements, screen shots /snips /attachments are acceptable; change of details pages are not acceptable).
  • Insurance Policy Documents. **
  • Photocard Driving Licence, any nationality (must be current).
  • UK Old Style Paper Licence.
  • Utility Bill (i.e., Amenities: Gas, Electric, Water, also includes leisure: Mobile Phone and TV Licence). *
  • Future payment Utility Bill (i.e., Amenities: Water and TV Licence) if the paid until date is in the future.
  • Credit or Store Card Statement.
  • Correspondence from Statutory Bodies (e.g., Benefits Agency, Employment Services, Central or Local Government Departments). *
  • Council Tax Bill. **
  • Address Payslip (a payslip can only be accepted when the full name or first initial and last name, address and the issue date of the payslip are shown on one page). *
  • Store Invoices / Statement / Other Correspondence. *
  • P60. ** / P45. *
  • Tenancy Agreements. ***
  • MOT Tax Disk Reminder. * (from expiry date of current tax disk)
  • Vehicle Registration Document / V5C.


 Documents must be dated within 3 months of the date of submission of the application.

 

** Valid for the year of the date of the submission of the application.

*** Tenancy Agreements must state start date, how long the agreement is for, be current, show signatures of both landlord and tenant (at least landlord signature/initial) and can be electronically signed. Can also be filled in by hand but must then meet the following criteria – a printed form where the personal and property details are filled in by hand; a document signed by the landlord or agent, tenant (individual) and witnessed; meets the date and length of term requirements applicable to normal tenancy agreements; handwriting cannot match that of the tenant/individual (must be filled in by landlord or agent).

 

Important Notes:

  • Proof documents must be in the current full name. If the name on the document is a previous name, then a marriage certificate, divorce document, deed poll (showing a change of name), or adoption certificate must be provided to prove the change of name.
  • If your photocard or UK paper driving licence confirms your current address then only one document needs to be provided as this will confirm your name, date of birth and current address).
  • Date stamps are NOT acceptable as issue dates.
